UK eyes more economic cooperation with Kuwait KUNA 2012

Kuwait News KUNAFawaz Karami KUWAIT, Feb 15 (KUNA) -- UK Trade and Investment Chief Executive Officer Nick Baird hailed UK-Kuwaiti relations as excellent, adding that UK is looking forward to bolstering even more cooperation with Kuwait in all economic fields.
"UK-Kuwaiti relations are excellent and more than 250,000 Kuwaitis, a quarter of the Kuwait native population, visit the UK annually," Baird said in an interview with KUNA Wednesday, adding that this is the highest rate globally.
Baird, currently on a visit to Kuwait, noted that Kuwaitis have more than 50,000 private properties in Britain.
The UK official said that his government is seeking to strengthen its cooperation with Kuwait in all domains and at higher levels.
He estimated the UK exports to Kuwait in 2011 at one billion pounds sterling.
"The Kuwaiti exports to UK have reached the nearly same value in 2011," Baird said.
He disclosed that he has discussed with Kuwaiti Minister of Public Works Dr. Fadhel Safar and Managing Director of the General Authority for Investment Bader Al-Saad increasing UK companies' contributions to Kuwait infrastructure projects and implementation of the state development plan.
Baird also urged the Kuwaiti investments authority to enhance its participation in infrastructure projects in UK cities.
The British official also met Kuwait Petroleum Corporation Chief Executive Officer Farouk Al-Zanki.
"Talks with Mr. Al-Zanki focused on the possibility of British companies contributions to oil projects to help Kuwait achieve the ambitious goal of taking its production capacity up to four million barrels a day," Baird said. Baird said that he has informed Kuwaiti officials that British companies are willing to enter into partnership with their Kuwaiti counterparts in the energy sector, downstream and upstream projects.
He unveiled that the British university plans to open a branch in Kuwait and the UK government is seeking to invest in the educational sector in Kuwait to cover all educational stages. (end) fnk.tb.ibi KUNA 151857 Feb 12NNNN
